Patient Testimonial

"One day, several years ago, I showed up for an appointment at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and met a soon to graduate intern by the name of Rob Vena.

I have been following him ever since. Why? It seems he's not only an intuitive, compassionate, alchemical healer, but I actually see results, feel better longer and trust his skills, know-how, and heart.

Go see him!"

-Pattie C.

His studies included several different styles of acupuncture and needle technique, moxibustion, herbology (Chinese herbal formulations and remedies), diagnosis and treatment of disease, anatomy, physiology, clinical science, tui na Chinese medical massage, Eastern and Western nutrition, cupping, gua sha, tai chi, and qigong. During his years of training, Rob had the privilege of working under the guidance and support of experts in traditional healing modalities and those specializing in modern, Western medical practices.

Rob has extensive experience working with patients suffering from various conditions. His treatment protocols may include body acupuncture, auricular acupuncture (ear acupuncture), electroacupuncture, moxibustion, heat therapy, internal and/or external Chinese herbal medicines, Chinese medical massage, acupressure, cupping, gua sha, Qigong exercises, breathing exercises, guided meditation, and lifestyle and dietetic counseling.

Rob spent more than 4 years living abroad, and it was in Asia that he discovered his passion for Eastern philosophies. Over the years, his study and practice of meditation and Chinese martial arts led him to an intense interest in Chinese medicine. And this, in turn led him to change his personal priorities and begin living the life he truly desired; one dedicated to helping others live a more balanced life of health and wellness through the use of ancient medicinal techniques.

The ability to eliminate the need for harsh pharmaceuticals and unnecessary surgeries was another motivating factor that helped Rob to make the decision to pursue a career in Chinese medicine.

Rob is a veteran of the US Navy, in which he served a total of 6 years as an enlisted Naval Aircrewman. After graduating from the Defense Language Institute's intensive Russian Language Studies Program he served as an airborne crypto-linguist for the United States Naval Security Group, analyzing Soviet military communications, cracking codes, and informing U.S. intelligence agencies of potential threats.

Although Rob is well-educated in a wide array of subjects and topics, he also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from Nyack College and is a graduate of The Chubb Institute's Computer Programming school.

Working With Energy

Along with providing acupuncture treatments to patients, Rob also has experience working with energy and practicing Chinese Internal Style Martial Arts.

Chinese Internal Style Martial Arts focuses on internal energy (Qi) development through meditation and other ancient Taoist techniques that are beneficial to the mind, body, and soul. Studying these Taoist techniques allowed Rob to gain a greater perspective on calming the mind and utilizing various meditation and mind techniques to shift the brain and become more focused and mindful.

Rob began his study of Chinese Martial Arts at The Blue Dragon School of Martial Arts in New Jersey, where he he practiced Qigong and Baguazhang style Kung Fu. Later, he continued his training under Master Fukui Yang of Hebei Province, China, who helped him advance in Qigong and Taijiquan. In addition to learning more about Qigong and Taijiquan while studying at PCOM-NY, Rob also studied Tui Na Chinese Medical Massage under Master Yang’s guidance. He continues his studies of Qigong, Baguazhang, Taijiquan, Yiquan, Medical Qigong, and meditation privately with Master Yang in New York City’s Chinatown district.

Rob continues to further his education in Chinese medicine by regularly attending classes and seminars around the United States. He is an avid reader who enjoys immersing himself in books and journals on the wide-ranging subject of this ancient medicine.

In June of 2013, Rob attended the Traditional Chinese Medicine World Foundation’s Wu Ming Qigong Workshop for Breast Health, where he learned to demonstrate special Qigong movements designed to promote breast health in women.

Rob is thrilled to offer his services to the people of New Jersey and the surronding areas. He is a leading NJ acupuncturist with a solid education, a good reputation, and the experience and know-how to help with all of your family’s healthcare needs. He is nationally board certified in Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and a proud member of the New Jersey Association of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, the Acupuncture Society of New York (ASNY), and the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM).

Acupuncture has been shown to eliminate specific bodily pains as well as help balance the mind. The focus of acupuncture is on a complex network of energy pathways and acupuncture points spread throughout the body. By insertion of hair-thin needles into these areas, an acupuncturist can help remove energy blockages that may be the cause of a variety of ailments, illnesses, and diseases with which an individual may suffer. Removal of these blockages can also help a person to become more focused and mindful, allowing for a more enjoyable and greater quality of life.
